About TiaKari Enterprises

TiaKari Enterprises began, in a way, back in 1997.

The name came first. TiaKari was created from my twins’ names—the first name of one and the second name of the other, smushed together into one surprisingly usable word. When I began offering business services, it became the name of the company too.

I already had a background in computer science, but web design was something different. I taught myself HTML using Joe Barta’s online HTML tutorial and started building websites—first because I could, and then because people actually needed them.

That soon turned into offering website design and limited graphic design services to small businesses and the artists, writers, musicians, and other creative people in my circle. And every new project seemed to come with a new problem to solve—and something new I needed to learn.

One website sent me into CSS. A comic book website introduced me to PHP. A Luv and Relationships website led to designing and laying out digital magazines. Each project expanded what I could do, and each client gave me another opportunity to add something new to my repertoire.

More than twenty years later, the technology has changed considerably, but the work itself has remained surprisingly consistent: helping small businesses and creative people turn what they do into something they can actually present to the world.

Over the years, I’ve designed websites for businesses, artists, writers, musicians, publishers, and other creatives. Some of those businesses and websites have come and gone—as websites tend to do when you’ve been building them since the last century—but the experience stayed with me. And sometimes things come full circle. The publisher behind one of those early comic book websites recently returned with a new comic book venture and a new website to build.

Along the way, TiaKari Enterprises grew beyond websites. Today, I create broader branding and design experiences, including logos, websites, business cards, labels, packaging, and other visual materials that help a business or creative project develop an identity of its own.

I still approach the work much the same way I did when I started: every project is different, every client needs something a little different, and figuring out how to make those pieces work together is half the fun.
