JivaFang

Writer | Storyteller | Worldbuilder | Developmental Editor | Creative Designer

Born in Grenada, in the Caribbean, at a time when oral storytelling traditions were still very much alive, JivaFang grew up on Anansi Stories, folklore, and the magic of stories passed from one generation to the next.

She was also raised by a grandmother who believed fiercely in the power of literacy. Having a father who saw little reason for women to learn to read, her grandmother, Hilda, was self-taught and understood that literacy was more than an education—it was a pathway to freedom, independence, and opportunity. Determined that her granddaughter would never face those limitations, she taught Jiva to read at the age of three and instilled in her a lifelong love of books.

Growing up at the intersection of a rich oral storytelling tradition and a home filled with literary classics, contemporary fiction, and just about anything else she could get her hands on, Jiva developed an enduring fascination with stories and the worlds they create. That fascination followed her to Brooklyn, where frequent trips to the Brooklyn Public Library meant disappearing among the works of “Frank  L.  Baum” and regularly leaving with the maximum ten/twenty books she could borrow at a time. Those afternoons helped cultivate a lifelong love of Oz and the boundless possibilities of imaginary worlds.  (She is desperately aware that for her entire life she’s put the “L.” in the wrong place, and she wasn’t about to change that for this bio)

That foundation, combined with a vivid imagination, the superpower of ADHD, and quite possibly a touch of the ’tism, helped shape her into a writer, storyteller, and creative developer with a passion for building worlds and bringing imaginative ideas to life.

As a writer and developmental editor, Jiva enjoys exploring the architecture of a story—its pacing, continuity, character development, internal logic, and emotional impact. She is particularly drawn to speculative fiction, fantasy, supernatural storytelling, and narratives that challenge conventional expectations. For her, one of the greatest joys of creative work is watching an idea evolve into a fully realized world that others can experience, inhabit, and perhaps even get a little lost in.

Her current literary projects include “The Good, the Brave, and the Wicked” a series that takes readers on a journey into the world of Oz; the “Orchid Helix” series, which has been stagnating on her Patreon and RoyalRoad for quite a while; and “Their Ravenous Queen”, an expansion of her previously published novella, Falsely Accused. She is also developing the expanding Ophoii / EzoŌkami universe, and has been exploring interconnected narratives, complex characters, and the possibilities of storytelling across multiple formats.

Beyond writing and editorial development, Jiva works in website design, digital publishing, graphic design, and creative technology. Her current projects include Vision Comics, a comic publishing website, and Avidlē, a developing reading and publishing platform. She also creates websites and digital tools designed to help independent creators and small businesses bring their ideas to life.

Her own corner of the internet, RandomlyJiva.com, remains perpetually unfinished—a situation she attributes to the age-old problem of the cobbler’s children having no shoes. Apparently, building websites for everyone else is considerably easier than finishing her own.

Whether she’s refining a manuscript, developing a fictional universe, or designing a digital experience, Jiva’s creative philosophy remains the same: Every idea has the potential to become something extraordinary when given the imagination, structure, and care it deserves.
